Semai 2D Non-Exclusive Seismic Survey

Searcher Seismic in conjunction with project partner Fugro acquired the 5,221 km Semai 2D Non-Exclusive Seismic Survey in 2006 which covers the relatively unexplored Semai-Gorong Basin in Eastern Indonesia. The survey was acquired utilising a 7,200 m streamer with a mix of 8 and 11s record lengths. The Semai 2D Seismic Survey is the first geophysical survey to be conducted over the majority of the survey limits and has overwhelming revealed, unlocked and upgraded geological and hydrocarbon potential of this frontier basin.

Located in a structurally complex region of four plate intersections, a thick Palaeozoic to Mesozoic section has been identified in the area showing a strong strati-structural affinity with the Australian Plate evolution. The area is imprinted by the uppermost Miocene to recent series of compression pulses progressively younging to the north-east. The western part of the area is severely compressed showing a complex of imbricate thrusts, while the eastern area displays a series of gentle folds that propagate into shallow water and possible onshore.

The Semai 2D Non-Exclusive Seismic Survey has revealed a number of large structures capable of holding significant hydrocarbon volumes at a variety of stratigraphic levels. The data has also shown that the Semai-Gorong Basin has a similar dispositional history to the hydrocarbon-rich Bintuni-Salawati Basin.
