In 2005 Searcher acquired the first reconnaissance lines in the previously unexplored Gorontalo basin. Up until that time the offshore geology was thought to be a continuation of the oceanic crust seen onshore. This dataset has revealed the existence of possible Mesozoic to Tertiary aged sediments with high potential for the generation and trapping of hydrocarbons. This dataset in conjunction with the Gorontalo 2006 survey which infills the regional lines of the Newlook Survey provides a very good insight into a hitherto unknown sedimentary basin.
